I was thinking the other day as a was in the weight room not really knowing where I was going with my workout, which doesn't happen very often, I was thinking about doing abs, motivation was on the low side, kind of wavering between things to do, I didn't have a plan. I realized how important it is to always have a plan of action. Whether it's having an exact workout planned, or just knowing what body parts your working and which exercises you plan to do, planning your diet for the day or the week, having a calorie goal or macronutrient goals you're shooting for, planning your day to get everything done, having a plan of action is key. First comes goal setting, next comes planning to achieve those goals.

If you have a plan laid out ahead of time, you don't give yourself the chance to contemplate doing anything else. For example, if motivation is low before your workout, following a laid out plan will push you through. It may be a lower intensity, but most likely once you start, you will follow it until the end, and realize why it is you are doing what you're doing. I've had days when I just wasn't feeling it going in to my workout, but I knew I would just have to make it up on a different day. I pushed through, followed the plan and ended up having some of the best workouts on those days.

Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Set yourself up for success by always having a plan of action.
