Build Your Foundation

Many people think successful nutrition plans are ones that are fancy, precise, and detailed, strategically incorporating "magic" fat loss foods; this plan is finally the answer to all their weight loss problems! The truth is, these plans rarely work in the long term, even for the most advanced athletes and trainees.

Unless you have a solid nutritional foundation built around general healthy eating habits, foods you like, and your personal schedule, the little details don't really matter as much as you might think. This is kind of like building a house with no foundation to save money and then picking out fancy tiles for your 3rd floor bathroom. It might hold up for a little bit and you might get some happiness from those fancy tiles, but ultimately it's only a matter of time before something starts to crumble from the bottom and the whole house crashes down....in other words, you just blew your diet because you were too focused on the fancy details without first building a solid foundation to rely on.

Work on building the foundation first with basics habits. Eat protein. Eat healthy fats. Eat vegetables and fruits. Eat high fiber carbs. Eat starches around your workouts. Listen to your body cues;eat when you're hungry, stop just before feeling full. Look at the big picture. Keep it simple and keep it consistent. Usually this will be enough to start seeing changes in your body and feeling better and in control.

Next time you're temped to jump into the next "best diet" that will solve all your problems, ask yourself if it is really teaching you how to eat in a way that will help you thrive for the rest of your life, or if 3 months down the road you'll just have to "start over" once again.
